10 Ways to Welcome Spring

Posted by Danielle Todys on

This has been a loooong winter. Every now and then, we’ll have a few warm days but Mother Nature is such a tease!

Regardless of the crazy weather changes, it’s April… and April means SPRING TIME! After winter hibernation, the house feels stuffy and claustrophobic so here are my 10 go-to ideas for welcoming Spring!

Open the windows

This is the absolute first thing I like to do! It brings fresh air in and creates circulation making the house feel less stuffy. As an added bonus, you get to enjoy the sounds of birds chirping and the fragrance of spring blooms.

Decorate with lighter colors

Put away your dark decor and pumpkin candles, and break out the pastels! By changing out your kitchen towels, living room throw pillows, and mantel decorations, your house will immediately look more bright and airy!

Spring Wreath

Whether you purchase one or DIY your own custom wreath, this small touch of color to the front of the house makes a huge difference!

Plant a garden

Grow your own veggies! You can build a raised garden bed, plant in the ground, use pots… There are so many ways to start a small garden. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it’s a great way to spend time outside and save some money on groceries!

Have a yard sale

Go through your house and pull out all that junk you’re never going to use and see if you can make a few bucks!

Clean out the closet and start a donation pile

My husband and I do this all year long. We have an ongoing donation pile and when we fill up a bag or 2, it goes to charity. This will not only keep your closet from overflowing, but it’s also really nice to give to people in need.

Scrub the house down

Face it… You’ve been stuck inside for months on end and, unless you’re Martha Stewart, your house is probably grimy. Give it a good cleaning and you’ll feel so much better! Plus, this gets out all those icky winter germs so you can start fresh.

Indoor plants

Bring in a few plants to brighten the place up. Flowers on the kitchen table look so classy and smell fantastic!

Diffuse citrus EOs

If you’re into essential oils and have a diffuser, this is a great time to use the citrus oils. It makes the house smell clean and because citrus is a natural uplifter, your entire household will feel happier and more cheerful!

Break out the grill

I don’t know how to grill BUT… my husband is amazing at it! If you don’t know how to grill, find someone who can and enjoy the deliciousness that is freshly grilled meat and veggies!

If you have your own ways of getting rid of the winter blues and preparing for spring, please share them in the comments below! I'm always looking for new ideas :)

  • He enjoyed reading your very concise list of simple to do ideas. The open the windows idea is my favorite even though the pollen likes to blow in. It’s worth it to have the sounds and smells of spring inside.
